Oct 08, · I had a question for my Mustang. It has a Cleveland with a factory tach and I just had a Pro-Comp Electronic Ignition Distributor Installed. This is a Ford DuraSpark distributor our buddy, Tim Moore, pulled out of the junkyard.
He eliminated the vacuum advance can and filled in the hole to make it appear more like a mid-’60s Ford dual point distributor. He has converted the wiring to a two-pin connector as used on an MSD distributor.
Below the advance curve weights is are inner and outer magnetic star ring. Not sure about the exact naming of them but the inner star ring is attached to the distributor shaft and when the shaft spins, the points in the rings come within hundredths of an inch, telling the ignition module its time to ground the coil to produce a spark. The Duraspark II distributor uses a magnetic pickup in place of traditional breaker points.
The Duraspark II ignition coil is capable of generating a higher voltage than the regular coil. The wiring is attached via a special snap-on connector.Ford Dura-Spark II, Wiring, How ToTroubleshooting your ignition system – Ford Muscle Forums : Ford Muscle Cars Tech Forum
