I took the starter off and went to the John Deere dealership and they tested it and said it was good. The only place to find the wiring diagram is in the factory John Deere service manual and they are expensive.
As for your problem, it sounds like you may have a bad safety switch or blown fuse. The solenoid should have the (2) large terminals and it will also have 1 or 2 small terminals.
